SAFETY DATA SHEET (MSDS) |
| SECTION 1: PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION Product Name: MW1010 Binder Modifier |
Issue or revision date: 6/6/98 Chemical Family: Organic copolymer |
SECTION 2: HAZARDOUS INGREDIENTS
| Component | CAS# | Quantity | Threshold level | Carcinogen |
| Styrenic Copolymer | not required | 98% | not established | no listing |
| Residual monomers | not required | 0.01% | not required |
MW 1010 is composed of relatively low toxicity resin pellets.
SECTION 3: HEALTH HAZARD DATA
Summary of Acute Hazards: No significant hazards known but suspected eye and skin
irritant.
Primary Routes of Exposure: Eye and skin contact.
Summary of Chronic Hazards: No appropriate human or animal data are available on
the chronic health effects from prolonged or repeated exposure to this material.
SECTION 4: FIRST AID MEASURES
Inhalation: If overcome by exposure to dust or hot vapors, remove victim to fresh
air and obtain medical attention if breathing difficulty persists beyond 15 minutes.
Eye Contact: Immediately rinse with clean water for 20 - 30 minutes. Obtain
emergency medical attention if pain or redness persists.
Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing as needed and wash skin thoroughly with
mild soap and water. If the area is sticky use a waterless hand cleaner first.
Ingestion: Not expected to present a significant ingestion hazard under conditions
of normal use.
Physicians Emergency Medical Treatment: Do not induce vomiting. Administer
cathartic such as magnesium citrate or sorbitol.
Physicians Detoxification Procedure: Treat symptomatically.
| SECTION 5: PHYSICAL DATA | |
| Appearance: White or clear pellets | Odor: little or no odor |
| Boiling Point: Not applicable | Specific Gravity: 1.0 - 1.1 |
| Vapor Pressure: Not applicable | Vapor Density (air=1): Not applicable |
| Solubility in water: negligible | pH: Not applicable |
| Melting Point: Begins to soften at 70C | Percent Volatiles: Less than 1% |
| SECTION 6: FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD DATA | |
| Flash Point: > 200 F (PMCC) | Auto-ignition Temperature: No data available |
| Lower Explosive limit: No data available | Upper Explosive limit: No data available |
| Fire and Explosion Hazards: Potential dust explosion hazard. Heat from fire may cause material to melt, decompose, and generate flammable vapors. | |
| Extinguishing Media: Dry chemical, CO2, Water fog, Water spray. | |
| Special Fire Fighting Procedures: Full protective equipment is recommended. Apply water carefully to prevent frothing or steam explosion of molten material. | |
SECTION 7: HANDLING AND STORAGE PRECAUTIONS
General: Use good personal hygiene practices. Wash hands before eating, drinking,
smoking, or using toilet facilities. Promptly remove soiled clothing and wash thoroughly
before reuse. Respiratory: Avoid prolonged or repeated breathing of dust. NIOSH or
MSHA approved dust respirator should be used if dust is generated when handling this
material.
Eye: Dust goggles should be used to prevent mechanical injury or irritation to eyes
due to airborne particles.
Skin: Avoid contact with skin and clothing. Protective gloves and other apparel
should be used as needed. Wash thoroughly with soap and water.
Storage: Store in a clean dry area. During handling or transportation avoid
generating excessive dust. If conveyed pneumatically, transfer should be in nitrogen, and
ignition sources should be avoided as dust explosion is possible.
SECTION 8: REACTIVITY DATA
Hazardous Polymerization: Not expected to occur.
Hazardous Decomposition products: may decompose to CO, CO2, and residual monomers.
Materials to avoid: Oxidizers, carboxyls, isocyanates, and chlorides.
Conditions to avoid: Sparks, open flame, other ignition sources, and dusty
conditions.
SECTION 9: SPILL AND DISPOSAL INFORMATION
Spill: In event of release, extinguish all sources of ignition due to dust
explosion hazard and prevent release. Contain spill and collect as per any solid into
suitable disposal container. The material is insoluble in water and may float or sink.
Disposal: Landfill solids at permitted sites. Use registered transporters. Comply
with applicable regulations for solid waste regulations. Solids may be burned if mixed
with supplemental fuel.
SECTION 10: TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION
DOT Hazardous Material Proper Shipping Name: Not regulated.
SECTION 11: HAZARD RATING AND LABELING INFORMATION
NFPA: Health = 1 Flammability = 1 Reactivity = 0
HMIS: Health = 1 Flammability = 1 Reactivity = 0 Personal Protection
= X
SECTION 12: REGULATORY INFORMATION
Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA): All ingredients in MW1010 are listed by TSCA.
Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1988 (SARA): MW1010 does not
contain significant quantities of any materials subject to reporting requirements.
Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA):
MW1010 does not contain significant amounts of materials subject to reporting
requirements.
